Green Day

Green Day Members – Who are They and Where Are They?

Green Day is an American punk band which formed in 1987. The three founding members are Billie Joe Armstrong, who is the lead vocalist and guitarist; Mike Dirnt, bassist and backup vocalist; and drummer John Kiffmeyer. All but two have remained with the band continuously since its inception.

John was replaced by drummer Tre Cool who has been with the bank since 1990. So who are these guys and what’s their story?

1 ) Billie Joe Armstrong – Born in Oakland, CA and raised in Rodeo, CA, Billie Joe was the youngest of six children. His dad was a truck driver and and jazz musician but died in 1982 when Billie was only ten years old.

Billie Joe got into music at an early age. In 1987, he formed a band called Sweet Children along with childhood friend, Mike Dirnt. They changed the name to Green Day in 1989, allegedly for their preference for marijuana.

Along with his participation in the bank, Billie Joe has been busy over the years collaborating with other artists such as The Go Go’s, Penelope Houston, and Rancid. He has a son also in the music business and has been married since 1994

2) Mike Dirnt – The second founding member still with the bank, Mike was good friends with Billie Joe Armstrong since childhood. He had actually lived with Billie Joe when his mother and sister moved away from Rodeo and Mike didn’t want to leave or give up his music.

On the personal side, Mike has a daughter named Estelle Desiree who was born in April 1997 with his first wife Anatasia. Mike is currently married to Brittney Cade. They have a son together named Brixton Michael.

3) Tre Cool – His real name is Frank Edwin Wright III and he was originally born in Frankfurt, German. He lived in Willits, CA with his father and sister.

Frank was recruited to play drums in a band formed by his closest neighbor, Larry Livermore. Livermore gave him the name Tre Cool.

When Green Day’s original drummer, John Kiffmyer, left the band they recruited Cool to become their drummer. He’s been with the band ever since.

An interesting escapade of Tre Cool involved his scaling of the Universal globe at Universal Studios in 1998. Luckily for him, he wasn’t arrested or punished. Rather he received a lot of cheers from onlookers and the public in general and is the only person who has been known to do this stunt.

So where are the members of Green Day? They are still making music both with the band and through outside collaborations. And one or two of them still find time to make headlines once in a while.
